Who We Are?

Our Mission

The mission of Maskwacis Ambulance Authority is to provide and to pursue excellence in the delivery of Emergency Services.

We will accomplish this by being a leader in emergency services and to providing the Maskwacis community with excellence in pre-hospital and out of hospital care by:

  • Valuing our staff, patients, community and Samson Cree Nation
  • Maintaining and promoting the highest standards of our profession
  • Supporting illness, awareness and accident prevention
  • High quality treatment of our patients at an Advances Life-Support level (ALS), through the continued search for, and implementation of better technology, training and protocols
  • Working collaboratively with our colleagues in health care emergency services

history

Inspired by Cree values in order to better meet the needs of its members, the Samson Cree Nation established the Muskwachees Ambulance Authority (MAA) in 1982, which was incorporated only a few years later. MAA is tasked with the provision of emergency medical services within these great communities.  We have grown to three dedicated ALS units — servicing over 5500 missions per year.

We believe in providing the best care possible.

The Business

MAA is an advanced life support service, meaning that every ambulance is staffed with a paramedic. Our team of dedicated staff pursue excellence in the delivery of pre-hospital and out of hospital care

MAA provides Emergency Medical Services (EMS), an essential service, to the Maskwacis community, which includes the following Four First Nations of: Ermineskin, Louis Bull, Montana and Samson.  In addition to providing service within Maskwacis we provide care in a supportive EMS role to the surrounding areas of Wetaskiwin and Ponoka.

In September 2013 — MAA recognized with the National Accreditation Canada’s Primer Emergency Medical Services award. This award affirms that our service is strong, engaged and of a quality analogous to National Standards within EMS. This primer award is Accreditation Canada’s first level of accreditation and over the years ahead MAA is working to achieve the next level called Qumentum.

Qumentum Standards will evaluate, support, and review our services against national EMS standards and best practices. We will continue striving to be the very best Emergency Medical Service.

MAA is dedicated to save lives and promote health and wellness within Maskwacis.  In doing so we value:
